Telehealth Therapy Across Virginia: What to Expect

Reaching out for therapy is a big step. Figuring out the logistics shouldn't make it harder. Whether you live near our Rixeyville or Manassas offices, or a few hours from either, Evergreen Behavioral Health Services offers telehealth therapy to people across Virginia. Here's what to expect.
What Is Telehealth Therapy?
Telehealth therapy is the same counseling you'd get in an office, held over a secure video connection. You and your counselor talk face to face, just from your own space. Our team has been supporting Virginia families since 1972, and telehealth is one way we make that support easier to reach.
Before Your First Session
Pick your spot. Choose a private, comfortable place where you can talk openly. A bedroom, a parked car, or a quiet corner of the house all work.
Check your tech. You'll need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a steady internet connection. We'll send you the link and walk you through it, so there's no need to be tech-savvy.
Have your paperwork handy. We'll go over intake forms and consent with you before you start.
Don't stress about being "ready." You don't need to know exactly what to say. Your counselor will guide the conversation.
What the Session Feels Like
Your first session is mostly a conversation. Your counselor will ask about what brought you in, what you're hoping to change, and what support looks like for you. After that, sessions settle into a rhythm that fits your goals, whether that's managing anxiety, working through grief, or simply having someone in your corner.
Many people are surprised by how quickly telehealth starts to feel natural. Sitting in your own space can even make it easier to open up.
Who Telehealth Works Well For
Busy parents and working professionals who can't carve out travel time
Folks in rural parts of Virginia, where the nearest office might be a long drive
Anyone who feels more at ease starting therapy from home
People whose schedules, transportation, or mobility make in-person visits tough
Is It Private?
Yes. Telehealth sessions use secure, confidential technology, and the same privacy standards apply as in our offices. A few small habits help on your end: use headphones, choose a private room, and use a trusted internet connection rather than public Wi-Fi.
Telehealth or In-Person? You Can Choose
Telehealth isn't all-or-nothing. Some people stay fully virtual, some prefer meeting in person, and some mix the two. If your needs change, we can adjust.
