Evergreen Behavioral Health Services, LLC is a mental health practice providing compassionate outpatient counseling and therapy since the early 1970s. We offer evidence-based, client-centered telehealth services to individuals, couples, and families — including children, teens, and adults.

2. Do you offer in-person or only online/telehealth therapy?

 

All services are delivered 100% via secure, private telehealth (virtual/online sessions) from the comfort of your home.

3. What states can receive therapy from Evergreen BHS?

​

We only serve patients located in Virginia.

​​

4. What types of therapy and counseling do you provide?

​​

  • Individual therapy

  • Couples counseling

  • Family therapy

  • Child and adolescent therapy

 

Therapists use compassionate, evidence-based approaches, with some clinicians trained in EMDR for trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression and related issues.

6. Do you accept insurance? Which plans?

 

Yes — we accept most major insurance plans, including:
Aetna, Anthem/Anthem HealthKeepers, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CareFirst, Cigna/Evernorth, Humana, Johns Hopkins, Magellan, Medicaid, Medicare, Molina, Optum, Sentara, TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare/UMR, VA Community Care Network, Virginia Premier, and others.
Self-pay options are also available.

7. How do I verify insurance or check coverage?

9. Are sessions confidential and secure?

 

Yes — all telehealth sessions use a Therapy Portal - a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

10. Where are your offices located?

​​

  • Online Therapy: Available to all clients throughout Virginia!

11. Do you have therapists experienced with EMDR, trauma, or OCD?

Yes — several clinicians are trained in EMDR and other specialized modalities. Individual specialties are detailed on the “Our Team” page.
 

12. Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

 

Yes — many clinicians offer flexible scheduling that includes evening and weekend time slots to accommodate work and school schedules.
 

13. How quickly can I get my first appointment?

 

Most new clients are scheduled within 1–7 days, depending on clinician availability and insurance verification timing.
 

14. Do you provide therapy for children and teenagers?  

 

Yes — several therapists specialize in child and adolescent therapy, working with kids as young as 5 and teens on issues like anxiety, school stress, behavioral challenges, and family dynamics.
 

15. Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy?  

 

Yes — research shows telehealth is equally effective for most mental health concerns. All Evergreen therapists are specifically trained in best-practice virtual delivery.
 

16. What platform do you use for telehealth sessions?  

 

Sessions are conducted in Therapy Portal: a HIPAA-compliant video platform (simple link sent by your therapist — no special software download required).
 

17. Can couples do therapy together if we live in different locations in Virginia?  

​

Yes — as long as both partners are physically located in Virginia during sessions, joint virtual couples counseling is available.
 

18. Do you offer Christian counseling or faith-based therapy?  

​

Some clinicians integrate Christian or faith-based perspectives when requested by the client and when it aligns with the client’s goals.
 

19. Do you treat ADHD?  

​

Yes — therapists commonly work with ADHD-related challenges in children, teens, and adults (organization, focus, impulsivity, emotional regulation, etc.).
 

20. Can I switch therapists if the first match isn’t quite right?  

​

Absolutely — the practice will happily help you find a better-fitting clinician at no extra charge.

​

21. Are you LGBTQ+-affirming?

​

Yes — Evergreen clinicians provide inclusive, affirming care to all individuals regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

22. Do you offer sliding-scale or reduced fees for self-pay clients? 

 

When talking with the intake team, please discuss your specific situation, and we will evaluate what options might be available for you.

23. What should I expect in the first session?  

 

The initial session is typically an intake/assessment where your therapist gets to know you, discusses your goals, and begins building a treatment plan together.

24. Do parents need to be involved in a child’s or teen’s therapy?  

 

Parental involvement level is customized based on age and needs — some sessions include parents, others are one-on-one with the child/teen, and many use a combination.

25. How long are therapy sessions and how often do people attend?  

Standard sessions are 45–60 minutes. Frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) is determined collaboratively based on your needs and goals.
